Selling Avon Face-to-face Tips

  • Tell everyone you know that you sell Avon. Talk to friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and other acquaintances. Try leaving brochures and product samples at places where there is high traffic: offices, grocery stores, banks, salons, gyms, etc. Be sure to ask for permission first and get follow-up contact information.
  • Talk about your favorite Avon products. Proudly wear your Avon products daily. You can show off clothing, makeup, jewelry, fragrance, and more. When someone compliments you, it opens the door to talk about your Avon business. If you don’t want to wear any of the products, get an Avon pin. It definitely helps to have first-hand knowledge of the products from trying them yourself. If you aren’t familiar with our products yet, use your Avon eStore to learn more about each product and how customers review the product.
  • Talk about to customers and potential customers everywhere. Bring catalogs with you everywhere you go. If you’re not comfortable starting up a conversation with the grocery cashier, the bank teller, or the gas station attendant, simply ask if they’d like a catalog. You’d be surprised at how many say yes. And if they say no, don’t take it personally.
  • Make sure to ask for referrals, and follow up. People are very busy nowadays. Whether it’s work, running around with the kids, or something else keeping your potential customers distracted, it always helps to give them a reminder. The fortune is in the follow up. Ask your customers if they know of anyone who would like to be serviced by an Avon Representative.

Selling Avon Online Tips

  • Additional Earnings – Remember eSales are included in your product total to help you reach that $100 order mark. Use Avon’s coupon codes and special offers as a way to entice new customers to shop with you online.
  • Boost your Total Order Size – When calculating your campaign totals, Avon will combine face-to-face sales and online sales to determine which commission level you have reached. The more ways of reaching new customers, the better.

Let’s face it…when you start anything new, it can be intimidating. Whether you are taking on Avon as a part-time opportunity, embarking on a whole new experience by starting your Avon business as a new mom, or just looking for something fun to do in your spare time…Avon can be a really rewarding and profitable business if you put in the hard work, the time, and dedication. I always recommend to my team; in order to make the most money selling Avon, they should take advantage of all three areas of opportunity: 1) selling from the catalog, 2) selling Avon online, and 3) building an Avon team. I have plenty of other articles with tips on how to be a successful Avon Representative but in this article, I want to cover the basics and answer some frequently asked questions for new Avon Representatives.

How do I know when my first Avon order is due?

Avon catalogs are numbered by campaigns. Every two weeks, Avon Representatives start selling from a new Avon campaign. The selling cycle for 2015 is campaign 1 – campaign 26. To find out which day your orders are due, you can find your Avon campaign schedule on yourAvon.com. To find your campaign order due dates, log in to yourAvon.com – click on my account – Profile – See Calendar under Account Information next to your RPS Code. The column titled “YourAvon.com / F.A.S.T. Talk” is the one you want to look at to find when your orders are due each campaign.

How do I know how much money I make selling Avon?

When you become an Avon Representative, you earn 20 – 50% commission based on the size of your order. There are additional earnings opportunities though selling Avon online and starting your own Avon team by recruiting others to sell Avon. Avon also offers many exciting incentives to earn prizes like trips, cars, and more to reward you for your hard work! The percentage of commission you earn will depend on the total of all of the orders you turn in for each campaign. You can find the earnings chart on yourAvon.com – click on Earning Opportunities – Earnings Chart. Avon is an opportunity based on “the more you sell, the more you earn” so in order to make the most of every campaign, be sure to turn in large orders and get to know your earnings chart so you don’t miss out on the next earnings level by a small amount.

How do I get paid as an Avon Representative?

When you sign up to become an Avon Representative, you are becoming an Independent Sales Representative and not an employee of Avon Products. You will not receive a paycheck from Avon for selling products face-to-face. When taking orders from customers face-to-face, you collect the total amount of their order + the order processing charge + sales tax. Once you have collected and submitted all of your Avon orders for a given campaign, Avon will bill you for the cost of the products, the One Simple Fee, and sales tools. Since Avon bills you for the cost of the products, the One Simple Fee, and any sales tools you order…the amount left over from your customers’ payments is your profit. See the example below:

Amount Collected from Customers – Amount you Owe Avon (Cost of Products + One Simple Fee + Sales Tools) = Your Profit

In order to figure out how much money you made on your orders, you can look at your invoice once your order has billed and find the line that says estimated earnings. Be sure to subtract the cost of any sales tools and fees from this amount to find out your amount of profit. The sales tax amount is not one of the costs you should subtract from your earnings since you collected this money from your customers and are passing it on to Avon to pay for you. Find ways to conserve in the beginning like recycling brochures (ask for the brochures back when your customers has placed their order or ask them to pass it on to a friend).

How does selling Avon online work?

When you start selling Avon, you can sell Avon door-to-door or sell Avon online. You can also decide whether you want to sell Avon online only or sell traditionally and Selling Avon Onlineonline. I recommend trying both until you start excelling at one or the other. If you are successful traditionally and online, sell Avon both ways to make the most money.

When you set up your Avon website, you can determine whether you want online customers to have the option of direct delivery, representative delivery, or both. If you choose direct delivery only, all online orders will be shipped directly to your customers. Direct delivery orders will be received, processed, and shipped by Avon. If you select representative delivery, customers can place their order on your website but their order will only be put in your online cart…you are still responsible for placing the order, collecting payment, and delivering the order. If you choose both, the customer can pick how they would like their order processed.

How do you get paid when selling Avon online?

Similar to selling Avon traditionally, you do not receive a paycheck for your online sales commission. Instead you receive credits from Avon on your account which either deducts from the balance you owe Avon or accumulates to a credit balance. Once you have a credit balance of $25 or more on your Avon account, Avon will make a direct deposit to your bank account in the amount of the credit balance. The direct deposits post on the 1st and the 15th from Avon (allow 2 business days to see the direct deposit in your bank account).

How much can you make selling Avon online?

When selling Avon online, you earn 20% commission (25% commission if you are a member of the President’s Club). Keep in mind your online award sales do count toward your earnings level in combination with your traditional award sales. Therefore, your online sales could help bump you up into the next earnings level for a given campaign.

Do I have to meet a sales quota with Avon? 

The beauty of being your own boss with Avon is there are no sales quotas to meet. The only rule as far as sales requirements go is you will need to submit at least a $50 order each Avon campaign in order to earn commission. If you don’t have enough Avon orders to submit a cumulative $50 in orders for a given Avon campaign, you can either place the order and skip the commission for that campaign to keep your customers happy or wait until the following campaign to place the order. You will not be removed as an Avon Representative unless you have six campaigns in a row of not placing an order. You could also suggest to your customers to place the order on your website if they prefer to receive it earlier.

Do I have an Avon sales territory? 

Absolutely not! There are no sales territories with Avon which gives you the power to build a huge customer base all over your city, state, or even further. With the power of the Internet, you can sell Avon online to customers all over the USA.

Are there any other costs associated with selling Avon? 

Yes, there are a few other costs you should be aware of with selling Avon. Each campaign that you place an order, you will be charged the One Simple Fee. It starts at $5.95 and covers the cost of shipping & handling and your own personal Avon website. Don’t worry though…when you collect the .75 cent order charge from your customers, it is yours to keep to cover your Avon selling costs. The only other costs you will be responsible for when selling Avon is buying your own catalogs (starting at $6.49 for a pack of 10 and get less expensive the more you buy), samples (optional), and sales tools (Avon branded sales tools like bags – also optional).

Does Avon provide training? 

Yes but because this is your own Avon business, it is up to you to take advantage of Avon events, online training courses, and read Avon materials. Avon will not force you to do anything so you must be self-disciplined and make the most of your business if you want to be a successful Avon Representative.

What’s the best way to make money in the beginning?

In the beginning, it’s easier to get face-to-face orders than it is online but I would do both. The online sales are great once you start getting them but can take longer to build up than traditional sales. You should also consider starting your own team right away. If you’re worried about what to say…don’t. Just find people who are interested in selling and your upline or district manager can help with the rest. The reps that make over $100,000 per year have built up big Avon teams. As far as sales, you may want to consider having a Grand Opening party or event to tell everyone you are now an Avon rep and show them the latest catalog. Be sure to get contact info when you hand out catalogs so you can follow up to see if they want to place an order. Be sure to fill out your invitation list of everyone you know who may be interested in Avon and follow up with them about buying or selling.

Do I have to charge sales tax to my customers?

When a customer places an order with you, it is your responsibility to also collect sales tax. You can usually find your county’s sales tax rate on the county website or by looking for the percentage on the bottom of a receipt from a retail establishment. Avon has a tax calculator worksheet on yourAvon.com – under my Account – Tax Information – Tax Calculator or you can download the one posted below. All you need to do is plug in your tax rate.

For ex: the sales tax rate in my county is 8.25% so if I had a customer whose subtotal came to $100, I would collect $108.25 ($100 * .0825 = $8.25 for sales tax).

How do I get Avon brochures?

Your starter kit will come with 20 Avon catalogs (10 for each of your first two campaigns). For the following campaigns, you will need to order brochures. They come in packs of 10. To order and see the cost of brochures, go to Order Brochures – then Avon Brochure Pricing Info – in your order cart on yourAvon.com. You can also order brochures using product number 055745. Since they come in packs of 10, enter a quantity of 1 for a pack of 10, 2 for a pack of 20, etc. You are always ordering brochures two campaigns ahead. Ex: if you are placing an order in campaign 2 and enter product number 055745, you will receive campaign 4 catalogs. If you wanted to order campaign 3 catalogs, you would need to use the drop down menu in your order cart to select campaign 1 and enter product number 055745.

How do I know if I have to place an order / deliver for one of my online customers or if it will ship directly to them?

If your customer chooses direct delivery on your website, it will ship to their house and you will be credited the commission amount on your account. If they choose rep delivery, you will be notified via email from Avon. You will still need to place the order, collect the money, and deliver the order to your customer. Beware of scams as a new rep…my word of advice is to never accept an order from a stranger who is not willing to place the order and pay for it on your eStore. Be especially cautious if they are asking to pay by money order or cashier’s check. Again, I advise not accepting these types of orders…if it seems fishy, it probably is a scam.

Do I receive a discount on my personal orders?

You will receive the same discount as you would earn in profit. You can find the commission levels on this page…depending on the total amount of your orders, you will earn different percentage levels of profit. So if your commission amount was 20%…you would receive a 20% discount on anything you buy for yourself: http://www.makeupmarketingonline.com/how-much-do-you-make-selling-avon-2/ You can also earn a bigger discount by shopping out of the What’s New catalogs also known as demo books. Those are books specifically for representatives and you can only order 1 of each product unless it says otherwise.

Do you hold team meetings or send out communications to your team?

I usually create email newsletters, blog posts, and videos with tips. I find it’s easier with reps all across the country to do a recording or communication that people can access on their own time since we all have different schedules. I’m happy to work one-on-one with those who are interested. There are also district meetings and events in your area that are hosted by your district manager. I’m sure you will get information on those events shortly.

How can I engage new customers as a new Avon Rep just starting out?

For online, there is a Grand Opening email in your web office that gives first-time customers on your website a 20% discount on $50 orders. And that is given to them from Avon so it doesn’t take away from your earnings. There is also a couple of flyers I attached to help give your customers deals but not take away from your earnings in the beginning. The Daily Care Collection is only available to offer your customers in your first campaign. Sell 20 bundles and that means $400 in sales and 35% earnings for you! There are chances to earn free products in your first 4 campaigns with the Just for You program. And there is also the business booster that you can buy for $35 with over $100 value to use how you’d like.
